Jake Schickel is a founding partner of Coker, Schickel, Sorenson & Posgay. In the four years prior to the start of our firm, he worked as an Assistant State Attorney and Chief Assistant Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit. Mr. Schickel is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He is board certified in Civil Trial Law and Workers’ Compensation by The Florida Bar, and is a Certified Civil Trial Attorney with the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is also a Certified Civil Trial Mediator with the Florida Supreme Court, and a Federal Court Mediator, Middle District of Florida. His law practice is primarily focused on personal injury, products liability, professional negligence, mediation, and workers’ compensation.
Throughout his career, Mr. Schickel has been highly active in the legal profession. In 2006, he was named the Justice Harry Lee Anstead “Board-Certified Lawyer of the Year” by The Florida Bar.
He is a member of The Florida Bar Board of Governors, a past chair and committee member of The Florida Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization and Education, and has served as a member of the Executive Council of the Trial Lawyers Section.
He is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, Past President of the Jacksonville Defense Lawyers Association, Adjunct Professor at the Florida Coastal School of Law, and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocacy. He has also served as a University of Florida Law School Trustee. In recognition of his continuous work to support legal professionalism and the cause of justice, Mr. Schickel was selected as one of the “Leading American Lawyers in Florida.” Since the program’s inception in 2006, Mr. Schickel has also been chosen by peers as a “Florida Super Lawyer.”
Mr. Schickel’s passion for justice is matched by his long-term commitment to his community. He has served two terms as the Chairman of WorkSource and as the Chairman for the Center for WorkForce Leadership. He is also a member of the Oversight Committee for the Real Sense Prosperity Campaign. He has served on the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors and on numerous committees for that organization. Mr. Schickel is Past Chairman and a member of the Board of Directors for the Jacksonville Electric Authority. He was recognized for his civic leadership when he was named “Lawyer of the Year” in 2002 by the Jacksonville Financial Times and Daily Record. In 2010, Mr. Schickel was recognized by the Jacksonville Bar Association’s first ever annual “Professionalism Award.” He was also the recipient of the 2010 Fran Coker Community Service Award bestowed by FLABOTA (Florida Chapter of the American board of Trial Attorneys).
